Our economic recession is not just hitting tax payers in their pocket books, it’s also turning run of mill lawyers into full fledged criminals. Lawyers that would make a fortune back in the day have been reduced to tears. Plagued with financial woes capable of beating them to the concrete at every possible instance. Many lawyers are now operating on pure survival instinct, incapable of even paying their bills. Our current economic recession has led many lawyers around the nation to lie, cheat, steal, or whatever they have to in order to make that dollar.
Why? The troubles the United States is facing aren’t just affecting the working class and the less financially fortunate. Our crisis is actually affecting more profitable occupations as well, many that took a significant amount of education to get there.
One of the main troubles lawyers are having these days, is the fact that there is just not enough people out there who have enough money to obtain their services. With so many consumers out there struggling to pay their mortgage and credit card payments, who has the funds to obtain a lawyer’s service and the heavy fees that are associated with their place of business? Well not many! Lawyers these days aren’t living the lifestyles of the rich and famous, they’re actually forced to rob and steal for the meal ticket.
Sad as it may be, unaccountable amounts of stress and the lack of clients have made becoming a lawyer a fruitless endeavor. Knowing no man can get blood from a stone, hundreds of lawyers are going to get the harsh reality of street life spoon fed to their already war-torn faces. Guns, drugs, purse snatching, it’s all in the mix. The next time you see a lawyer who’s fallen on hard times, you might just get robbed too, just not in the way you would think.
Loan modification rip-offs are probably the biggest lawyer scam at this time. Some homeowners facing foreclosure obtain the service of a lawyer in an attempt to stop the foreclosure process and achieve an affordable payment. But many of these lawyer’s can do nothing or very little to negotiate with the bank to allow the borrower to stay in their home. These firms will often charge a heavy up front fee to their clients ranging anywhere from 1-5k. Once the government started their mortgage modification programs, banks stopped working with lawyers and sought help from the gov’t.
It’s outright fraud what many of these lawyers are doing, and most of them are located in the state of mortgage misery, California. Meaningless representation of clients is just another one of the feeble attempts to gain business clients, knowing full well there is nothing they can offer these already troubled homeowners. Many have already been disbarred, and the number of crimes committed by lawyers is on the rise, due primarily to the shortage of clients.
Due to so many complaints from borrowers, the California State Bar is investigating well more than three hundred firms around the state. According to the State Bar, most of these loan modification companies are located in Southern California where foreclosure and mortgage defaults is all to common.
