I am sick and tired of dealing with the people (?) at Countrywide. I have two houses with Countrywide mortgages. I applied in March, 2009 two refinance both loans to a lower interest rate. I was not behind on payments, I did not want money out, my loan-to-debt ratio is fine. I filed the appropriate paperwork, for each mortgage to be at 4.65% . Suddenly, the paperwork was "lost," the appraisal for one of the houses was "lost," and therefore my file was not completed on time, and the loan process for both loans was closed. When I complained and said that I wanted to re-open them, I was told that the interest rate was now 5.75%, that my credit score had gone down in the last several months, and I might not even qualify for that. I wanted my $800 back --- representing the $400 up-front fee that they charged me for each loan. They refused. I called, left letters, faxed, emailed -- nothing. Right now I just want my $800 back since they lied to me about the paperwork not being in on time, they lied to me about the appraisal paperwork being "lost" (it turns out, by their own admission, that the appraisal on one of the houses was NEVER EVEN DONE by them) ---- AND................I shouldn't have had to pay the money upfront, over the phone, before the loan process had even officially begun. Please help. My husband has been out of work (he works in the construction industry, which is DEAD), and I can REALLY USE the $800. If I try to refinance, it will NEVER BE WITH COUNTRYWIDE/B of A AGAIN. Thank you.

We have been talking with Countrywide since June. Our hardship began, when our oldest son was in a car accident and lost his great job. He injured his back and now cannot do construction, etc. He can only lift 30lbs at the most.He is only 26 yrs. old. He was working at a newspaper company and was offered an apprenticeship learning the presses.
He lives with us. He also has 3 small children, ages 2,5 &6. Well, they live with us also. So all of a sudden, we are raising another family in our 50's. My husband is the only one working, as for the previous two years, I was taking care of my mother and mother in law, who had alzheimers and my husband had a quad bypass done. WE were doing okay, until the kids moved in. We have sent hardship letters to Countrywide, etc. Before we got behind, I had called and was told, you have to wait until your behind, or just make the payments late, or just pay the principle and make up the escrow by the end of the month.
I don't know what we are going to do. They are awful to work with. You get a different person every time and your told different things.
All these companies are getting help, and it is us the american taxpayers, paying to help them out, but they will not help us. GO FIGURE THAT ONE OUT!
THANKS FOR LETTING ME VENT! I AM SO STRESSED OUT!

A lot of home owners are getting a bad deal already on rising interest rates and cookie cutter loans. I have a countrywide mortgage and have experienced too many situations on the phone where information was given incorrectly over and over again. I would estimate that for every 1 out of 10 phone calls to countrywide, you will find someone who can actually help you or be knowledgeable about your loan type and what to do.

My advice is to keep calling, when you find the one person who can help you get there name and extension so you can work with them as much as possible until your issues are resolved.
