Ohio Senator Brown Announces Federal Grant to Aid Further in Housing Low Income Veterans in Cleveland

(Source: U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown) – New federal resources will provide critical support services for homeless and low-income veterans in Cleveland. U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH) today announced that Mental Health Services for Homeless Persons, Inc. in Cuyahoga County has been awarded a new federal grant from the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) program. The $995,709 grant will be used to provide supportive services to low-income veteran families living in or transitioning to permanent housing.

“The men and women of the Armed Forces have been made a promise that if they defend our country, a grateful nation will provide them with services and benefits they have earned,” Brown, a member of the Senate Committee on Veterans’ Affairs, said. “These federal funds are a down payment in the promise to support those who have already given so much to our nation.”

The grant was awarded through the Supportive Services for Veteran Families program which aims to prevent and end homelessness among veterans. Mental Health Services for Homeless Persons, Inc. plans to serve approximately 400 participant households in Cuyahoga County.
