Does Wells care if I vacate my property to generate rental income?

If I do this in order to cover the mortgage (since I can't get hired and have run out of unemployment), do they care if I vacate (my "intent" has been to stay in it, but my intent was also not to go into foreclosure! Things change.), and do I have a realistic chance at a permanent modification? Or are they going to tell me I can only do either a short sale or deed in lieu?

I'm interviewin so hope to have a job in the next month or so to show more income.
