After getting sick of a lot of the crap on the shelves of the supermarket you've got a couple of 30-something fellow right wingers who are looking to grow some of our "old ways" skills learned in childhood...and hopefully have a healthier lifestyle because of it. Lead on.

Re: This will be a great forum

I quite frankly feel like the forum is being hijacked by these new threads and I don't like it. My fight is very clear right now and it has nothing to do with canning. I have no time for canning. I have two full time jobs - one I'm paid for and this one - saving my home. I don't like looking at the new threads and seeing so much about cooking and canning and whatever. Gad. I don't want to make any of you mad, but we've gotta stay focused here and I don't like it. (Feel like a little kid stamping my feet in frustration!)

Understood Caldwell. I'm pretty new here as you know, but maybe just need a special thread for the fun stuff (remember, you laughed at the pic Friday out loud)? It is important to have a some relief but maybe a specialized thread or two for the great info Slim has! I think we are all focused on what the important issues are...some people need the canning, growing, etc., types of tips to save a little money to make their lives less stressful for the focused fight.

    What do you think?

At the rate people are getting loan mods and the amount of stress they are having getting them they need something that will take their mind off things. And these kind of things are good for the soul..Plus give you some added self worth that you can do something for yourself. Doesn't mean you have taken your eye off the ball. But how many hours a day can you spend arguing and fighting with these people. Plus were still waiting on Moe and BOA to put things together.
On top of that saving and growing might be just the thing that some people eventually use to pay their mortgage.
And worse to worse just drive by the threads you don't like. Only takes a milisecond.

I hear you Bob, But when I go to the forum I first look at the threads that have been newly added to. Today many of them are from that new forum. I'm quite worried that without a different format it will be too cumbersome to look to this forum for the information I need, or the information I want to share, and it's too important not to say something about it. Maybe I'm being paranoid. I don't know. I've just decided to be truthful.

Caldwell, this is Arlyn....Bob's wife....he rarely gets on here and types....he's the reader... He'd be here forever if he had to type!

    Being honest is great!

Slim, is Moe going to do a separate forum just for threads about canning, cooking, growing, saving money? That would be the place I think where everyone could go for these types of tips....What do you think?

Re: This will be a great forum

This forum is many different discussions going on at once and sub forums within the forum. Each one dedicated to its own subject or cause. Think of these forums like parts of your neighborhood growing up or the way you would like it now.

Some place you visit and some places you don't. Some places and things you may like may not be some of the things that Slim or TB like. Some things like canning or vacuum bagging food to preserve it Slim may like and you Caldwell may not. This is just the way Main Street works.

The purpose of these forums are to provide information for those that seek it and to attract others who may join in our cause. As I mentioned before, the cause on Main Street is much more than homes and loans. Many of the same people that visit here are unemployed and can use help with simple things like food and saving money.

Re: This will be a great forum

Moe - I get that. But when I click onto the forum I get "current threads" to the right. It has been the fastest way for me to find out new information. I don't know where some of these threads are located - i.e., is it in the foreclosure forum or Naca or Citibank? At first the only place I went was the Chase Forum. Then it seemed like things were being said that were relevant from other forums, so I just started looking at the current threads. I know you control this and I will find a way to make it work for me, but it's not a change I like. Okay. Done with that. I'll figure out something else.

Exactly, Moe. I am glad you are a creative, forward thinking type. And, from everything I'm reading out there (and what you've been saying for awhile now) is that this econ is going to get rougher on Main St. Very rough. But, Main St. is not being provided the truth, so folks are not getting the msg to prepare, prepare, prepare. Food stamp rates are way up for working folks. Unemployment has run out or will run out for most, soon. No jobs out there. We all know about the foreclosure rates. Something I read yesterday mentioned that it's actually much WORSE unemployment (rate) wise in this downturn (I agree Moe, we're in a Depression, not recession). The media's not telling the truth. Just like it didn't during the housing bubble and now throughout this crisis. Main St. is seriously f'ed and there's no real plans to bail it out (yet, or if ever). Housing is just one part of this very scary economy that's hanging by a thread off the cliff ESP FOR MAIN ST. The wealthy will do fine. Main St. isn't/won't. So, as Moe and everyone else is saying: don't wait for politicians, local, state or fed to save you. They're not coming. There's no plans or political will to save Main St. So, START PREPARING NOW! For the worst econ scenario. Better to be as prepared as one can be for the econ suffering/survival (ahead) vs. getting ****er punched out of the blue and having to swim against the econ tsunami after it's in full force and effect ? Just my thoughts. Grim. But, I'm a realist. Not a "head in the sand" er!

One definately needs to prepare. It will ease a lot of stress if you feel you are prepared. I was totally overwhelmed a year ago. I thought about it a lot and how I felt more in control was to do something each week. I couldn't and still can't afford to do much, but each week I bought extra water or canned meat or batteries or propane. Anything that seems to be what I would need to get thru an earthquake and loss of services for an extended time. I still have a long way to go.

Re: This will be a great forum

Caldwell, it will just take a bit more navigation to get the info you seek, but in the end, it will be better for all of us. We need to discuss these issues and get them out in the open air. This forum is perfect for that.

Irish - I come from the school of "Hope for the best and plan for the worst!" Our government does it, police do it and smart business people do it. It is one simple thing that humans can do to avoid future problems and ailments, yet many ignore this simple life living rule.

This isn't about being weird or paranoid, this is about being smart and prepared for you and your family.

How many times have we heard that our economy almost collapsed and still may? Martial law, chaos and food riots can and will happen in the event market crash. This is not a conspiracy theory, but reality.

It's a sad fact that most people only have a few days food in their cupboards and a month or two living expenses in the bank. That's if they are lucky!!!

What if there is a bank holiday and you cant get that money? What if there is a food run and you can't get food? Well, you're screwed and you'll say, man, I wish I would have listened to Irish and Moe

Oh and don't come to my house please. I'm nice, but when I'm hungry, I can turn into a real bear. I'll be guarding my food with assault rifles!!!

Re: This will be a great forum

www.redcross.org. or www.prepare.org. There is alot of information in those websites about preparedness. It's about preparedness for natural disasters, but really fits here. I always have water in plenty at home in large containers I just dump into the garden and refill from my tap every few months. I have canned goods. I have hidden cash - not much, but enough to get by for a little while. I have a landline phone that I can plug into the wall (cordless phones are useless if there is no electricity). My gas tank in my car is always at at least 1/2 full (because if there is no electricity or if the banks have tanked, there is no gas to pump). I know how to shut off the gas at my house, and have a barbeque grill and briquets - always (wish I had a wood stove, but I don't). The more prepared we are, the more likely we are to survive.
