Exclamation Why Won't Chase Accept My Mortgage Payment?

I tried to make my monthly mortgage payment to Chase today and was told that they would not accept a payment on my mortgage because the account is with the modification department. I had called like I always do to make my payment by phone and the "check by phone" system would not allow me to make a payment. I called Chase customer service and was told by the rep. that there was a note on my account to refuse any payments because of my modification request. This is nuts! Has anyone ever heard of this? I am current on my loan and want to keep it that way since I don't want late payments turning up on my credit report. My credit score is on the cusp of being able to get a refinance on my own, I don't now need Chase trashing my credit score because they won't take the payments on my mortgage. Especially if they won't modify my loan.

Re: Chase won't accept my mortgage payment?

OK, please try doing it on line...with Country Wide that works, lets see if it works with Chase...

Alternative to that if it does not, you need to send the QWR to prevent them from reporting the payment late. They can not report you late while the QWR is being processed and the inquiry is being investigated, big time trouble if they do. Must use the certified, return receipt method to prove dating.

Also call the lovely folks back and ask them just how the heck they are going to report you if you can not make the payment and you have tried and they are not accepting it......Make it real clear in a nice and assertive fashion that all of this is unacceptable.

You need to get in writing from them that they are not accepting the payment and that they will not report you late in this process.....

Re: Chase won't accept my mortgage payment?

Thanks Poppy for the suggestion. I did just that and it appeared to have gone through. Now whether or not they kick the payment back out of the system I have no idea. I don't understand why they would refuse to accept a payment on an account that is not even delinquent. Isn't that kind of like cutting off your nose to spite your face?

Re: Chase won't accept my mortgage payment?

They freeze the account at their end for payment so that it will not make more work for them with the changing balance and interest paid through dates....the only way we have discovered with some of them, perhaps not all, we shall see how yours goes, is to pay them on line. That is one avenue they have not been able to cut off and only where the loans are current. Once they become delinquent then the on line avenue is shut off.

Lenders, can't live with 'em, can't live without 'em......

Let us know if that worked please, we keep notes.....

Re: Why Won't Chase Accept My Mortgage Payment?

call a loss mitigator... 866.316.9218

speak to any loss mitigator and request to make a payment... adv them that your loan is current but that you are in the process of a loan mod.. takes all of 1 minute.. just depends if the guy or gal you get processes your check..

collections and cust svc are locked out of the payment system when a loan is being referred for workout option...

and your loan may go thru.. but a good chance itll get kicked out bc there is not a supervisor override that is goes with the payment.... but it may...

Re: Is this a Scam? (Chase)

that would be the early loss mit unit.. based outta texas, ohio, fl, az, and cali... so um... yeah.. they are glorified collectors who get a list of peeps who's ARMs will reset in less then 6 mos... there is some confusion between what "THEY" tell you and what " I LL" tell ya.. and "I M" right!!!

so um. read my notes and you ll be just fine.. but call the loss mit dept and speak to one the "knowledgeable" reps...

(and yes moe, poppy and kat... we have raised this issue with upper managment... but you know "FUBAR")

there is a rumor goin around that chase is negotiating with the investors to MOD all ARM loans for 5 years and to work them out individually for permanent MODS for the remaining 25 years.... at a fixed rate too.. jsut to do it in one fell swoop.. whether that happens or not is yet to be soon... chase is not as exposed to the ARM fiasco as other lenders... (notice we havent had a write down yet!! AHEM CITI AND COUNTRYWIDE!!!) sorry about that cheap shot. who knows.. we ll see...

Re: Is this a Scam? (Chase)

Chase is great, I had Option One the first month I refinanced and then Chase bought my loan, what a blessing that has turned out to be. But I did get harrased by the collections evil people, those folks really make Chase look bad though, never spoke to more rude people. After November, they stopped calling me since I was in the mod process. You have no idea how nice it was after they stopped calling.

Re: Is this a Scam? (Chase)

not that they are bad people.. but a collectors job is just that.. to collect on an acct that is delinquent. and they are also on a dialer... so it just calls and calls and calls.... they do about 300 calls a day... most of the time just leavin messages...

wilm...

Chase said my modificaton was approved

I just got off the phone with Chase and was told that my loan modification was approved as of April 1st. I have been in the process since December. I was told that a request to draw up the new docs was put in and that it could take up to 3 weeks for me to get them. I asked what type of rate I was being given and was told that they no longer give that info over the phone and that I would have to wait until my loan docs arrive to get that information. That is just crazy! Talk about being kept in suspense! I also asked what about April's payment and I was told that they don't know. They didn't even know if I should make it or not because they don't know if it would be at the old rate or the new one.

Re: Chase Modification for Self-Employed: HELP!!!

That was really nice of them to at least confirm you were approved....
Rather then them telling you that it is still awaiting investor approval and then docs just show up of course due back the next day....

Chase Success!!!!

Finally! After almost 4 months my loan modification was approved! I received the package by Fedex today and I have all of two days to get it notarized and back to them. I received a modification of 5% for two years and then 6.75% for the remaining life of the loan. Since I had been current on the loan, there is no down payment and no costs associated with the modification. My first payment is due on May 1st. I now feel like I can get on with my life!!

I think the most important aspect of dealing with Chase is to make sure you have a good hardship letter and that your income shows only between $100 to $200 extra a month after all expenses are paid. Also make sure to call in at least once a week so that they don't "forget" about you and be NICE to whomever you are speaking with. A spoonful of sugar goes a lot further than a spoonful of vinegar.

I also wanted to add that it was this site that gave me the direction and instruction on to how to go about getting modified. I followed the Chase instructions to the letter and it WORKED!!!!!!!!! A big KUDOS to everyone here! Thanks!

Update: Trying for a new mod. under the Obama MHAP

Last May I finally got a loan modification with Chase after months of struggle. The whole modification almost fell through when at the last minute I discovered that the loan modification package I had received, along with the wrong information that I had been told over the phone, was incomplete. At the 11th hour I had to run around trying to raise almost $2000 in cash to be Western Unioned over to them within 2 hours or the whole deal was off. I was able to get a hold of the 24hr customer service at my bank and they were nice enough to temporarily raise my daily limit on my ATM card so that I could withdraw the money and get it wired over to Chase. What a nightmare that was.....

Even with the new loan modification at 5% I am still paying almost 50% of my income to pay my mortgage, insurance and taxes every month. When the new Obama MHAP came out I called Chase to see if I could qualify for this plan even though I had my loan modified in May 2008. My loan is NOT a Fannie or a Freddie loan so the mod I am trying to get is the 31% modification. I was told that it didn't matter that I had had a loan modification already since it was a different program and that I should apply for a new mod under the MHAP. I printed the application from the website, filled it in and gathered all the information they wanted and photocopied everything. I sent it last week via US Priority mail with a confirmation receipt. What I didn't plan on was that it might get delivered on a Saturday and that no one would be there to accept it. That is exactly what happened. I just checked the USPS track & confirm and this is what it says:

We attempted to deliver your item at 3:49 PM on April 18, 2009 in LEWISVILLE, TX 75067 and a notice was left. You may pick up the item at the Post Office indicated on the notice, go to Redelivery redirect page, or call 800-ASK-USPS to arrange for redelivery. If this item is unclaimed after 15 days then it will be returned to the sender. Information, if available, is updated every evening. Please check again later.

I really HOPE that the post office attempts to redeliver my package! It would be just my luck that no one will and it will get sent back to me. I didn't want to fax it because of all the people saying that Chase sometimes claims that they never received the faxes. I was afraid I'd find myself in a situaton of waiting the 20+ days Chase is saying that it takes to confirm receipt of your papers to find out that they never received it and your back at square one. What I hadn't planned on was my package getting returned to me because no one was at the office to accept it. uugghhh....... I should have know!!!!

Anyway, I'll keep everyone updated. Thanks for reading
