GMAC Frustration

I am also new to this site and currently trying to get a modification with GMAC. When I initially called, they said that they could not help me because I was not late. I called a couple days later and told them that I wanted to stay in my house but was unable to make a payment. I then asked for a modification or a short refinance. After being transferred several times, I talked to a lady in the modification department (I'm assuming) and she said in order to do a modification I needed to owe two months so not to make the Nov. payment and call back on Dec. 2 when I would be due for that month too. She then transferred me to someone who dealt with short refinances. I talked to a guy who said that he could help me, he gave me his direct phone number, and I have misplaced it. Anyways, he told me that they would do a short-refi, but in order to do it I had to have 12 months of payments no later than 30 days late, which would be May, 2009 for me. He told me to call back after the 15th of December because they would have more info on the other programs available. You should try calling and asking for the short-refi if you have the 12 months of on time payments. Just tell them that you are struggling to make payments and you would like to stay in your house.

GMAC Frustration

I contacted GMAC today to see what the status of my modification was and they told me it was approved and I had to make 3 monthly payments of $1,206. That is only $28 less than what I was paying. Saving $28 a month is not going to work for me. I told the person in the loan mod dept. that and he told me it is a trial modification. I currently have an interest only loan and my house is no longer worth what I owe and I am unable to make my payments. I tried emailing Mr. Jaberi as I have read other people had success with that but his mailbox is full. I tried searching the web for another way of contacting Mr. Jaberi and I read that he is no longer with the company. First, is it the normal process of GMAC to make you pay 3 months and then they give you a lower payment? Second, who else would I send an email to if Javid is no longer there? Any suggestions are appreciated.

Re: GMAC Frustration

HI Shea - good to hear about your situation. I received a letter from GMAC (after applying for modification for the same good reasons as most people do, loss of income, loss of equity etc) and it says that they will put me on three month payment plan to start paying them and once I make these payments, they will review my modificaiton request. So, something must be making them thing, that they should test my ability to pay before they even take a look at the modification or they are so behind that they are just saying pay your full payment for three months (as in your case my monthly payment is about 20 less my regular payment) and than they will wait and see what they can do. Anyone else has any experience with GMAC? I am not sure what it means and what I should do.
Thanks,
Jarek

Re: GMAC Frustration

Sheabean, They were giving my sister the same run around - stop making payments and we'll talk to you, then saying that since she was late she'd have to make on-time payments for 3 months. Yada, yada.

It was only through the help of Loansafe, and especially ***, that I was able to get my GMAC loan modified. (http://www.loansafe.org/forum/stop-f...-loan-mod.html).

I called the number *** gave me: 1-800-850-4622 ext. 2362609 and was transferred to Sara Tolbert. She worked with me to get a satisfactory loan mod. Sara is now a Supervisor within the modification department and very helpful. You might try to give her a call. 214-874-6547.

Re: GMAC Frustration

Thanks. I will try to call that number again and maybe I'll speak with someone different and a little nicer. I just wish these people working in the loan mod department would understand that I'm not proud that I can no longer afford my mortgage. They all seem to have an attitude.

Re: GMAC Frustration

Update: In January, after being told yes and then no, and getting different answers from everyone I talked to at GMAC, i emailed gary.neuman@gmacrescap.com, which is an email address I found on this site. Within an hour I received a call with an offer I couldn't refuse. They put me down to 4% on a 3 month trial. After the 3 month trial, for some reason they lowered the interest rate to 3%, but I think that had something to do with my debt to income ratio. I have now sucessfully modified my loan with GMAC. I would recommend emailing this guy. Although I was in a trial period, it seems like one department at GMAC does not know what the other department is doing because I was receiving letters saying that they had tried to contact me and they were unable to reach me and I was going into foreclosure but I was already in the trial period and had received the final paperwork for the modification.

Re: GMAC Frustration

SheaBean - congratulations on your sucess!!

Reading your posts has been so encouraging for me. I too am trying to get a GMAC loan mod. They just offered us a reduced payment, but only $32 less! And, we had to sign an agreement to get that reduced payment that said we were in foreclosure...even though we had only missed one payment. Called, them and they said no, we weren't in foreclosure, blah blah blah, that form was just standard procedure in order to get reduced payments. Said it "looked like" we qualified for a loan mod under Obama's plan and that the next step was to get the fair market value of our home. No word since July, I'm getting ready to call them again.

I would love to hear others stories that are working with GMAC. Stats released this week said that GMAC is giving loan mods to 1 in 5 qualified.
