Homecomings said we haven't responded but we have

I am new to posting but have been reading the forum for a couple of weeks now. I am so glad something like this is out there!
I could really use some advise right now! We got behind after we have had several paycuts this past year. We don't have much debt at all, our mortgage is only 84,000. We also have a small car payment 267.00. But our income is only 30,000. Last year just under. We also have 5 kids. Times are tough.
So homecomings sent us a workout package in February, and we faxed it back right away. Got another letter approx. a week later saying we need more info, so we faxed the requested info back right away. Told to wait.... Now it is May yesterday in the mail was a letter saying since you haven't responded to our requests you have 10 days to pay (approx 60,000 of it) or else. It did also say call us to try and work something out, so we will be calling today. But now I am worried. Why are they doing this and is there anything else we can do?

Do you have any kind of proof that you faxed the paper work to them?

My experience is to ALWAYS have everything on paper.
Then they cant get away with that they have not recived it.

I do have the paperwork and the sheet saying the fax transmitted ok. I am just worried it is too late now.
