So here goes, I am active duty US Army, with three combat deployments and a fourth coming up. I am currently supporting my mother as she is in poor health with several serious medical conditions. Now a bit about my Mom, she is no longer working (at least not in the traditional sense) she is 68 years old and lives in Birmingham, Alabama. She has heart problems to include a leaking valve that cannot be repaired, stints inplanted into her legs due to poor circulation/blockages, and she still has pain from a fractured C2 vertebrae in her neck (2002) Her only income is the allotment I send her each month, her social security, a couple hundred dollars she gets in alimoney, and she does a bit of work from as a medical transcriptionist for which she is grossly underpaid! a couple hundred a month (if that). My Mom while she has physical problems is still very smart and can type 100+ wpm error free, and she is well versed in medical and legal terminology as she used to be a paralegal and she has been performing medical transcription work from home for about nine months. I mention this in case anyone reading this can offer her work from her home (that actually pays) Anyway here is the problem, my mother's home is financed through Indymac Bank. In January 2009 she was contacted by Indymac and was approved for a loan modification. They proposed to reduce her interest rate down to 5.125% and lower her payment from $1002 down to $620. She was verbally approved on the phone and she has made all payments of the reduced amount since January, now four months later (right after OneWest Bank took over hmmm....) they called her saying that she does not make enough for the loan modification so it's all NULL AND VOID. They have sent her an acceleration letter that threatens foreclosure if the full amont of the difference in payments and some various fees is not paid by the 24th of May. (This totals $3,700) My Mom has not been able to resolve this herself with the bank, they seem fine with the terms they offered her but she does not make enough to qualify for those terms it seems (again it should not matter because she has been making all the payments of the new amount which they told her to pay) She is utterly devestated by all this! I can't help her any more than I am doing since I already give her a large portion of my pay and I have my own family to support as well. What I can do is write and complain which I have done a lot of since learning of this whole mess last week. So far I have written: 1. The President, and the First Lady 2. The FDIC 3. The Govenor of Alabama and various members of his cabinet 4. The senators for my mother's district 5. And lastly I have cc'd most of the above traffic to Indymac Bank. (I have been authorized to act on her behalf and Indybank has written authorization on file) So far I not heard back from any of the above mentioned. Any advice on how to proceed? I need to help find a way to help save my mother's home.....any advice? |
