A young gentleman came by my home this evening introducing himself as a field employee of American Home Mortgage. He said that the main purpose of his visit was to see if anyone was occupying the home. He also verified my contact information and gave me a "we haven't received your payment" letter from AHMSI. He also asked the status of my payments...I told him that I've been in contact with Jeanne Drake's office to try to obtain a Loan Mod. It didn't seem like he knew who she was, but wrote her name down on his clipboard anyways. When I asked him again exactly who he was working for, he changed his answer and said that he's contracted by several banks to do these "drop in" visits. So really, I don't know who he is. I was so in shock by his visit and was pretty flustered with my two kids and dog trying to run out the front door at the same time. After the fact I realized that I should've asked for a business card. Is this standard procedure for AHMSI? I'm 2 months late on my mortgage. Just yesterday, I faxed all my financials to Jeanne Drake to apply for a loan mod. I followed up with a phonecall and spoke to Valerie, who said that a negotiator would call me within 24-36 hours. I haven't heard anything yet. Anyways, has anyone else with AHMSI been graced with a lovely visit from one of these people? |

If the bank were concerned about the property being occupied or not, they have other ways to get that information. Utility companies etc. As to him asking you personal questions on your door step, I would of shut the door in his face. Did he try to get you to make a payment or give him money? In today's economic times we must all be aware of scam artist. Also keep in mind that AHMSI is a debt collector, they must abide bye federal law. Just use common sense please. If someone comes to your home unannounced it would be in your best interest and your families best interest for you to call the local police. Good luck. acesfull |

I'm assuming that he really was with AHMSI, though, because ever since that visit, I've stopped receiving those annoying 800 calls from them. Thank goodness. On the other hand, though...no word yet from Jeanne Drake's office. It has been a week. Despite my numerous attempts to follow up via phone and email, I still have no contact with a negotiator. |

We are with WF and we got a visit right before ours went into foreclosure from someone checking to see if the property was occupied and she handed me a generic piece of paper telling me to contact my mortgage company. I was sort of shocked, said ok, and just shut the door in her face. |

They are considered "inspectors" and are usually old real estate agents or mortgage brokers who are out of work. They are responsible for filling out occupancy reports and sending their findings to the mortgage company. |
