Questions and Confusion/NACA

I have been here for a while and haven't posted our story. I will try not to drag it out.
We made our last full payment to Countrywide in February 2009. After that we made very small payments in March and April. We received a "Notice of Intent to Accelerate" from CW on April 24 that we needed to pay them $2777 by May 16 and let us know that we had other options if we couldn't do that, i.e., Repayment Plan, Loan Mod, Sale of Property and Deed-In-Lieu.
We sent a letter to the President, Adrienne Ely in Simi Valley, CA on April 28 stating that we were interested in a Deed-In-Lieu.
I have no idea how much longer we have before they come after us nor do we have information on the options time wise. We tried to call the number they gave us and just got a debt collector that could only take information on our bank account to pull out money that isn't there to satisfy what we owe. Other numbers listed were for debt or housing counselors or whatever they are called through HUD.
Like everyone else here, we are sick of this and are getting closer to just finding a place to rent (if we can find one) and sending the keys to CW (or BofA or whoever THEY are now) and telling them where they can put them and walking away.
Thanks for letting me vent. So glad to find this site.

From their website:

The Neighborhood Assistance Corporation of America ("NACA") is a non-profit, community advocacy and homeownership organization.

Here is the link to the site.

NACA is no better than Countrywide/BofA

I just spent a good part of my day signing up with NACA, filling out their questionnaire, etc. When I completed question number seven, I couldn't go any further and then got kicked out.

I sent an e-mail to them to report it.

What the heck??

Hi Fedup, Sorry you had a problem with the online system but it's hardly a reason to say they are no better than CW/BoA.
Take a deep breath and try again...every system has flaws to it, and nothing in this world is perfect

re: Questions and Confusion/NACA

Hi MP927 - Of course you are right. It is a good thing that they are there. I'm not giving up. It was a heat of the moment thing. I was almost to the end and then POOF! gone like it was never there to begin with. Combined with not being sure if I can remember everything I put in. In any case, I did take a deep breath, and I guess I will go trudging through it again.
If things weren't the way they are now, none of us would have to be going through this.

I went through the same thoughts...send them the keys and go rent somewhere...but we shouldnt let them win...Obama made a promise and they (the servicers) should follow through. It is awful when you receive the letter of intent to accelerate...I am in the same boat as you. I submitted to NACA and they submitted to CW on 4/17. I am just afraid that I will be foreclosed on before any modification.

HI fedup....I hope you know I was not coming down on you for your frustration-been there done that myself-when I started here it was a heightened sense of anxiety and anger, sort of a nice mix of the two...Now that my situation has improved due to NACA, I just want to help others in any way I can. I guess I'm a bit protective of them! I just want everyone to experience the same results that we received by the grace of God and NACA, plus this forum. So I'm trying to pay it forward and be a good steward to NACA and all the good folks here.
I can only imagine you wanted to throw the computer!
I really hope things will go smoother on your journey

Fedup2
When I had trouble with NACA's site I called a number on their site for tech support. The number used to be on the bottom of the page. When I called I got tech help much faster than waiting for a counselor. They can tell you what you need to do to finish imputing. Like for instance, my hardship letter didn't seem to be there but that was only because it had been submitted.
Hopefully this will help you.

re: Questions and Confusion/NACA

HereinNY, MP927, CWCalifornia - Thank all of you for your encouraging messages. Even though I wouldn't wish this situation on anybody, it's reassuring that you are not alone. I won't be able to get back to finishing applying with NACA until tonight or tomorrow, but, I will get it in. We are looking forward to finally getting help. It sounds like they get to it fairly quickly. CW is giving us until May 16. HereinNY - me too!
MP927 - No, I knew you weren't coming down on me. Actually, it made me feel better.
Again, thanks guys! Oh yeah, and Happy May Day!

Received May statement from Bank of America

I don't know if I am asking this question in the right forum, but, we received a May mortgage statement from Bank of America (also mentioned in this statement was the fact that our loan is in default - really?). So, even though we are submitting our documents to NACA today, should we contact Bank of America (with another hardship letter, etc.) regarding trying to work out a loan mod, or just do nothing and let NACA take care of it?
Also, should we fax a copy of the recent BofA statement with our other documents to NACA?
Thanks!!

Hello FedUp,

I would definitely send the recent mortgage statement to the NACA along with your other paperwork.

Have I already asked this question? Probably.

Okay, so I finally got our info submitted to NACA online as well as faxing with a telephone session for Sat, 5/16.
We recently received a statement for May from Bank of America (due date 5/16), of course, indicating that our account is in serious defaut (ironically we also received our Welcome to Bank of America package the same day - awesome).
Should we respond to B of A's statement, i.e., letter or call to see if they are interested in working something out or is it pretty much in NACA's hands once you have signed up and submitted?
Thanks (again)!

re: Questions and Confusion/NACA

If I were you, I would wait until after your NACA phone appointment to contact CW/BOA. Ask the NACA representative what you should or should not do. They will be able to advise you better once they have talked with you.

Good luck with your phone session and please keep us posted!

Fedup;

I agree with Flgata. Talk to your NACA counselor first.
One suggestion: Make a list of all the questions you can think of so when you talk to the counselor you have them in front of you. I got so excitied to be talking to the counselor I forgot to ask some important questions and it is hard to call them back as the wait time can be long.

Keep us posted, and good luck!

Cobra

FLgata & Cobra - thanks for the advice. I thought it would be better to wait until after speaking with the NACA counselor, but, thought it might be better to ask.
Cobra - a list is a great idea - thanks for that too.
I will let you know after the session how all went. It looks like I can only send messages through this particular thread. I tried three times to start new threads on different topics and they had all disappeared when I logged back in. Wonder what's up with that?

I have my first phone appointment with NACA tonight. I'm somewhat nervous about it...not sure why. I suppose I'm used to the dread that I get when I had to call Countrywide...

NACA has stopped responding

My last contact with NACA was on Monday, approx. 3:00 PM. Talked to someone named Josh. I will try to make this as short as possible.
What a stranged experience. As he was asking questions, he lectured me about our telephone bill (a bit high, but there was a good reason for it, which I didn't get a chance to explain), asked, what I considered bizarre, questions such as "do you go clubbing?" What the hell?
The following day we received an e-mail from Josh with a form to fill out attached. We were unable to open it, so I replied back and asked him if he could send it PDF? Twice so far. Have heard nothing back.
Would it be a good idea to contact NACA with a complaint on this?
Thanks.

Re: Questions and Confusion/NACA

Dear FedUP02,

You may want to go on the website and request another phone appointment asap. I have received a few emails from them and did notate at the bottom that it said do not reply as they aren't monitored. (not sure if you had a direct email address though). Just a thought....I had my first appointment with them on Monday and started out a bit rocky...but seemed to be ok. I think he was just trying to get up to speed on all my info. I have another scheduled for tomorrow morning at 9. Perhaps others have additional advice....

Re: Questions and Confusion/NACA

Fedup02, I would not be alarmed by this. The NACA counselors work to make your hardship situation look legit. When I first completed my application with NACA I was very honest with my expenses and I included a small expense for my husband's cigarrettes and an occasional drink here and there, clothing, etc. However, on my phone appointment my NACA counselor recommended that we leave off some of these minor expenses as it would not look good to CW that we are not paying our mortgage but yet are spending money on cigs, booze, and clothing. They also questioned some of my higher bills like gas and cell phone. I was able to revise some of the expenses I had originally submitted to give the impression to CW that I was only buying the bare necessities in life. This was my experience and NACA was able to submit a very reasonable and affordable mod to BofA/CW. Of course I am still waiting for approval so we'll see what happens. Hang in there!!!

Re: Questions and Confusion/NACA

hoping4change - Okay, thanks. Now all those weird questions make sense. Never thought about it that way (obviously).
I wonder why the guy didn't say that was why he was asking? Well, probably because he thought I might be smart enough to figure it out on my own (duh).
I have another phone appointment tomorrow at 11:00 AM. However, I haven't been able to get the rest of our info to them yet and don't know if I will have it by tomorrow. Should I take the call anyway or reschedule?
