EASY HAMP with Nationstar after Citimortgage nightmare

I guess I'll start my story in the beginning. In 2007, my husband left me. With only one income, I was unable to afford the 1990.00 house payment. I did not want to move, as this is where my children have lived, and their lives were alread being disrupted.
So, in 2009, I started the HAMP application with Citimortgage. After giving them my life in paperwork (taxes, bank statements, pay stubs, etc...) we began. After 3 trial payments and ZERO communication, I was denied. The reason was because I didn't make enought money (isn't that the point), and I didn't have a divorce decree. Don't worry, they told me, you can do an in-house modification. They never called me to get that started. I could NEVER talk to anyone over there that knew anything.
That's when I came here. I was given the name of someone at Citimortgage that became my contact. She suggested that we try again for the HAMP since my income was wrong. She just needed to "unlock my application" I called every week, she was still trying to get it unlocked, but was having a hard time because it was a "government application" and very hard to unlock, and no way could I try again without it. OK. She also told me to be prepared, because IF I am accepted, I have to make a down payment of approx $5000! Finally, in August 2010, I'm able to make my trial payments. I made a trail payment in August, September, and October. She told me they were just waiting for a decision, and I should know anytime! I waited, she stopped returning my calls...
Then, in November I get a letter welcoming me to Nationstar!! WHAT?! I called Nationstar and told them I was in doing a loan mod with Citimortgage. They told me not to worry, that all loan mods will pick up where they left off. But, I was left off almost done, waiting for a decision. They said they were just waiting to get the paperwork from Citi. Meanwhile, I came to Nationstar behind in payments, and they told me not to pay while they wait for paperwork...putting me further behind. In February 2011, they told me that Citimortgage was not cooperating, and not sending all my paperwork so WE HAVE TO START OVER... I gather my papers together, all ready to fax over and... I LOSE MY JOB! Totally NOT expecting that! I had nothing to give them, and was honest and told them please just wait. Meanwhile, I now owe them $18,000 and it's HAS to be paid in full or foreclosure. I started getting calls and mail from real estate agents, the city notified me of my foreclosure, and the notes get posted to my front door.

In May, I had a job prospect, I called Natiostar and begged to let me comlete my HAMP app. They told me to send my first pay stub the MINUTE I get it. In June, I started working and even though my first pay stub was a partial payment for starting mid pay period, I mailed it off. And the next 2 after that, with a little one page HAMP application, and a copy of my divorce decree (Yes, that finally went through), and THAT WAS ALL they asked for. They didn't ask for bank statements, nothing else! They started my trial payments in August. After my SECOND trial payment, they sent me the paperwork to be signed and notorized, and I only had to make one more trial payment.
That's IT! It was that easy! I was within days of losing my house and had 3 auctions postponed, but it's done.

They extended the life of my loan to 38 years. Gave me 2% for 5 years, then 3%, then 4% to cap off at 4.12%
My payments went from $1990 to $890.

I'm very happy. It was So quick and easy wtih Nationstar and such a PAIN with Citi!

So, I just want to say thank you to everyone hear who listened to me and to those who offer help. I want to be able to offer help if I can as well. At least I can understand the headache and devestation. I cried many tears over this process

    Hi ms_ladybug,

Congratulations!! That is a great modification and your persistence paid off. NationStar for the most part has been pretty good with their modification programs.
    Best Regards,

    Thank you!
Sorry that seemed so difficult to read. The words seemed so tiny when I was typing on my laptop.

In my opinion, THIS is how loan mods should go! Final paperwork sent after 2nd trial payment. And after the 3rd payment, it's complete! There was no long waiting for an answer, never asked for more papers, no down payment.
It was night and day between Citimortgage and Nationstar.

Oh, and THEY called ME every week. Even if nothing was new, they just called me to see if I had questions! Crazy!

That is exactly the way this process should work! You are one of only a couple people I have seen go through HAMP with such little difficulties. However, a few others have had success with Nationstar as well recently so it looks like they may finally be getting the process down And for them to contact YOU every week instead of you calling them is unheard of.. I'm so glad to see the people working on your account were on top of it like white on rice!
    Keep Fighting!
