Promoting your website is essential whether your purpose is personal or business but of course, this is much more important when you want to attract more potential customers to your site. Online advertising could be a complex task but it just takes some knowledge, time and practice for you to master it.
Promoting a site means that you will need to work towards increasing the number of visitors! To do this, your website should have a high rank in the search engine results pages. Thus, the first thing to do is to know what keyword or phrase to target for your website.
This is done by your websites domain name you choose, the title tags and the specific keywords you use on your home page and other internal pages on your website.
Some people make the grave mistake on creating a great blog or forum with awesome information to only find out later that only 10 or 20 people a year search for the information they had taken so much time to create. You may have a great idea in your head, but in order for an idea to make money, many other people must be seeking this information you are intending to create for profit.
One of the free online tools that I use that allows you to determine the proper keywords to focus on is a free keyword tool by WordTracker, Free Keyword Suggestion Tool from Wordtracker. Another good tool is the Niche BOT Classic at Keyword research service for search engine placement, Google keyword tracking tools, web site promotion software. These two tools provides you with a list of the most popular keywords and phrases for the subject or topic that you want your site to focus on.
Get started writing and posting on your site. At first, the traffic will be 0 and then slowly as you write articles, it will increase with time. I have articles today that I wrote in 2007 that get more visitors than when I organdy wrote them.
Think of your work is like a farmer who till the soil, plants the seeds, waters the earth, picks the weeds and eventually he is able to harvest food to feed his family after months of hard work.
After you have written 5-10 good articles and are focusing on the right keywords for your site, you can to use pinging, blog networking and article marketing as the primary ways to promote your site.
The technique of pinging is simple. As soon as you write an article for your blog or forum, you site a free pinging service to let the world of blogs know that your blog has a new article that they may be interested in. Be careful and only use one service and do not ping more than once so you are not considered a spammer by the search engines or free tools.
Free services like:
Blog networking is very simple. You do this by seeking out possible friends in the niche you are focusing on or just other bloggers. Start following other bloggers and commenting on their blogs with a link back to your website. Offer to write article for them and get networking.
The technique of article marketing is to write articles that contain helpful and interesting information that are related to your targeted keywords and phrases. It is common to include a link or two that sends the reader of your article to your site. To increase the chances that your articles will be read by many people, you have to submit them to various directories that already have high rankings in the results pages of the search engines.
If you have a budget for advertising, you can buy banner ads or sign up for pay-per-click advertising. Paid advertising can provide you with quicker results but you will need some funds to make it work. Also, much of the results may soon be lost after you stop advertising. Promoting your website through search engine ranking will take a longer time to produce results but they will be longer lasting.
