Government Buying Mortgage Backed Securities - Loan Modification Forum

Hello everyone. Maybe this has been addressed but I couldn't find it. Would anyone mind explaining the ins and outs of the government buying up mortgage backed securities and what it means to the average joe? Also, will they eventually buy up mortgages from other companies or are they only going to buy FM, FM & GM?

So it's just another bail-out for banks and will do absolutely nothing to help homeowners...

I was hoping that if the government bought the securities on the mortgages that at least it would make it easier to get a better more permanent loan modification but I guess not.
