I hired an attorney to help me with negotiations with my lender, Sovereign Bank. My roomate (for 10 years) $$ was being taking into consideraton on the modification. He informs me this week that he hates his job and he is moving. Current circumstances are now I cannot continue with the loan mod because I needed his income to qualify. When I spoke to my attorney he said probably the best thing to do would be a shortsale. I built my home for $342K I owe $300K my loan will readjust in 5 years it currently is 7.75%. My monthly payment is $3K. I don't want to move but I am afraid that I will have no choice. I have about 9K in CC debt and no other outstanding bills. I make $40K per year. Any thoughts? Thanks |

In this day and age sharing your living space with a total stranger is pretty scary for a woman in her 50's. I am going to put a ad on Craig's list and see what type of response I get. Thanks for the input. |

OH! BEWARE of CRAIGS LIST for rommates. I went this route and the punk wound up stealing my jewelry and hocking , stealing my credit card , what little cash, AND was a heroine Junkie. Had the police raid my house.... what a MESS!! Just a word of caution. P.S. the punk is now in prison for 5 years ! yay !

I agree with Bittersweetme. Remember those women who put their names on craigslits and ended up dead, and the killer was caught, thanks to surveillance camera. There's another one that put their business on craiglist and the guy went to her house, he was robbed, the woman and her partner in crime was also caught. It's best to ask friends or co workers and your church. Thanks and God bless.

There might be people there who know of other seniors etc that could help. You might on a long shot check with a local nursing school or college...you can get better references there |

IMO Craigslist basically allows a lot of shady ads and whenever something evil happens to a naive person seeking something through Craigslist, I don't like how Craigslist deals w/ it. "We don't condone" this or that. They don't seem to have a vested interest in truly protecting the public. Although I've heard they do cooperate fully w/ the police when crimes occur via Craigslist ads. And, it seems the perps out there use it as a victim resource on a regular basis. On many levels. For instance, a few mos ago, I emailed a resume in response to a seemingly professional, legit job ad. Thank god it was a generic resume w/ no overly personal info or address info in it. Because I got back a bogus "application" to complete which asked for all the identify theft info (personal data). Of course I didn't fill it out, much less send it back. I emailed back asking if they were a recruiter and never heard back from them. So, I'm sure it was identity thieves surfing for unemployed suckers to rip off. So, it's not just personal safety issues, it's employment issues, pet sales, etc. also. I hate the pet sales threads. Lots of exploitation of animals happening, regularly through Craigslist IMO. All the idiots who get pets and 9 mos later, when puppy becomes doggie that needs training or they decide to move (of course, didn't take that into consideration at all when getting a pet), they are dumped on Craigslist for profit or to just about anyone (possibly evil) w/out ensuring the pets go to loving, caring, permanent homes. I'm sure the dog fighters use Craigslist routinely as a route to get free or cheap dogs to "adopt" for baiting or to use for fighting. So, IMO, there's a lot of underground ugliness that proliferates on Craigslist. Be careful. I'd go the friend, family, church referrals route. Studious! college (or PhD/law/med) students can be good, too. When a unit next door to me turned investment property, the investor rented to a 3rd yr college student. I was leery at first re "tenant" schtick. She's a bit noisy sometimes (coming and going) but in gen'l is a quality tenant. Pleasant. Quality visitors. In college. She's actually better than the previous owner occupied, homeowner who had gazillions of (loud) visitors over constantly, up and down the stairs constantly, screaming and running around grandchildren constantly. Others may enjoy that, not me |

Irish Gal, You made me think about resume on craiglists. Thank you for sharing your story. I can't believe that crooks will go that far just to steal the identity you work hard for and trying to protect. But how about the usajobs.com where they have a lot of openings and when I click the apply botton, my computer gives a message of security certificate is not valid so I have emailed the resume to the email address, fax the DD-214 for military points, good thing I only put the last 4 ssn but they have responded to go to the same website and finally just to say sorry you're not eligible for this job. Is that weird or what??????

I have 2 boys in their 20's that work and go to school and both of them have used Craigs list a few times and each time ends up with good roomates. When I was working many of the employees used Craigs list and Rent.com to find homes for themselves and I only heard of 1 time it didnt work out. About 95 percent of the time it work out for the rest of them. Just do your homework, visit with the person more than once that your want to be your roomate and check out their place of employment and references. I would go this route before I let that house go. good luck! |

All I can say is, be careful. I don't know much about usajobs.com. But, continue to be cautious about what personal data you provide, anywhere. You seem to have a good "common sense," cautious nature about you, so just keep doing what you're doing. Myself, I wouldn't provide ANY personal data to anyone via on-line process. Also, I learned about a new, great job hunt, on-line resource yesterday: http://www.jobhuntersbible.com/image...ciyp_cover.jpg Lots of good info there. Perfect name for you, too "job hunter's bible!" I know you like anything with "bible" in it! ha ha ha Anyways, it's a site created by the guy who writes the yearly What Color Is Your Parachute? books. Hope it helps!
