I could get a better response from a can of dog food! Dear Madison: Thank you for contacting me about possible future financial regulations. Your input and ideas are a critical part of making sure the laws we pass in the U.S. Senate reflect Montana priorities. I first ventured into politics because I was frustrated by the deregulation of Montana's energy markets. In my years of public service since then, I have yet to see an instance of deregulation that was beneficial to consumers in terms of cost and efficiency. I share your belief that much of the financial crisis we are seeing today is related to industry deregulation over the last 20 years. As a member of the Senate Banking Committee, I look forward to working with my colleagues to draft common sense plans for financial policy that works for consumers as well as the financial services industry. I have repeatedly urged the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to report to Congress their staff and resource requests to ensure that they have the necessary tools to protect consumers and ensure fair and orderly markets. I advocated giving updated powers to the law enforcement arm responsible for investigating criminal activity to better oversee the evolving markets. The SEC has repeatedly been an absentee regulator. I will work tirelessly to put in place the right people and proper resources to bring stability and confidence for Montana's investors. You have presented many interesting possibilities that I will keep in mind as the Senate debates these issues in the coming months. Please do not hesitate to contact me again in the future if I can be of further assistance. Sincerely, Jon Tester United States Senator ************************************************** I cannot guarantee a response to emails sent to this account. Still sent him acopy tho....you know they all talk |
