Urge your Sheriff to Do the Right Thing!

Hi gang,

Several months ago, I read on the 'Net about this sheriff, Tom Dart of Cook County, Illinois, who refused to carry out court-ordered foreclosure evictions and it got me to thinking... what if everyone wrote a letter to THEIR sheriff and urged them to follow Sheriff Dart's example and thumb their noses at the crooked lenders and investors on Wall Street? To that end, I composed a univeral letter that you can copy here and paste into your word processing program, then print out and mail. All you need to do is add the date, sheriff's name and address in your program. Here's the letter for you:

Dear Sheriff ,

I am writing to urge you to follow the courageous and moral example of Sheriff Tom Dart of Cook County, Illinois, who announced last fall that he would stop enforcing court-ordered evictions of people who have been foreclosed on by their lenders.

The majority of the people in this county are honest and hard-working citizens who have become victims of circumstances beyond their control. Our legal system, as well as our state and federal representatives, have all failed abysmally to protect them from greedy, amoral and unscrupulous mortgage companies, Wall Street bankers and investors--who have absolutely no remorse over the pain, heartbreak and misery they have inflicted and are continuing to inflict without fear of reprisal for their actions.

What this means, Sheriff ________, is that you are the very last line of defense for the good people of your county, who elected you because they had faith that you would protect them to the very best of your ability against gross injustice and criminal wrongdoing. I am imploring you to not betray that very trust and instead send these corrupt moneymakers a strong and clear message that you will not give in to their demands to rip entire families from their homes and allow them to blight and destabilize your community. Please do not be part of the problem; instead be the beacon of hope your constituents so desperately need in this very dark and cold economic climate.

In the end, you may be cited for contempt of court, but by being a conscientious objector on behalf of the people who put you in office, you will be able to go to sleep each night with a clear conscience knowing that you have helped keep the American dream alive for many. Thank you very much for taking a moral and compassionate stand against corporate greed and tyranny.
