Is the economy is killing people? Some economists are predicting that the US is headed towards a depression in about 2010-2015. They believe that the date could be altered a bit by policy changes adopted by the Federal Reserve but they are sure that the depression will happen.

This situation may result into the collapse of the dollar, a stock market crash, a global epidemic, higher oil prices, corruption in the government, terrorism, or rapid deflation.

We are going to see the worst economic collapse ever, the Greatest Depression, says Gerald Celente, U.S. trend forecaster.

It is advisable to determine how you could protect yourself in case these scenarios do occur. Food, water, shelter, heat, protection and sanitation are basic needs that have to be protected. It is also important not to depend on the government but instead form community relationships and know the people whom you may depend on and those who could be a threat to you.

Some experts believe that the best way to prepare for the coming depression is to have passive income streams, a fully-paid home, and land where you can raise plants and animals for food. Having a few chickens that can provide you with eggs could be of great help during an economic collapse. It would also be essential to learn some basic skills on cooking, nutrition, chopping wood, animal care, and others.

It is also important to prepare for a potential loss of income by reducing expenses to a minimum while maximizing cash inflow. However, you will need to convert your dollars into silver and gold bullion before the dollar totally loses its value. You can keep the silver and gold in your own safe or you can put them in an individual retirement account.

As mentioned above, you will need to establish better community relations. This will permit you to barter products or services with your neighbors and other community members. You may also want to create a small poultry as a potential source of food for your family and the community.

Well I guess we will see a return to SQUATTERS RIGHTS? I mean there is land still and people can grow food. I think the idea about the chickens is a good one. It is a very uncertain time that we are living in. Nothing can be depended upon to be there. MA thankfully IS restoring funding for the homeless, but for how long? Especially since the ranks will be rising, in light of unemployment, underemployment and foreclosures. I read something about rat populations being on the rise in all the larger cities, and how this is actually a reflection of what is going on in the environment, that as infrastructures collapse, the rodent populations increase and lead to more property damage, and health and sanitation problems associated with these increased numbers of rats and mice in urban areas.

Though, I have to say, the very worst rat infestation I ever saw, was in a rural area. I was with a friend, looking at some horses, and I said to her, hey look at all of those squirrels running around in the wood over there. "Look again, they aren't squirrels, they're rats." I mean I felt like I was in a remake of Willard! There had to be literally hundreds of them there. I would get myself a rifle and try to get that down to a dull roar, and follow it up with a ton of DCON traps.

This economy needs to be turned around somehow. Good people are going down the tubes and being caught in a catch twenty-two. Homes upside down, job layoffs, savings gone, credit shot, what is it going to take to turn things around? Stop the world I want to get off.

To survive, one needs to think in terms of what is available today that may become unavailable, should a complete collapse occur. In the case of societal collapse, there is a high likelihood of loss of services, such as electricity and fuel. Preparation should take into consideration how to find safety, warmth and food, without services. This is where each person has unique obstacles. One-size-fits-all preparation is not available. Each person needs to create a plan for various scenarios and have backup plans.

As far as the timeframe -- late March 2010 will provide us with another insight into the fractured financial system. There is another test on its way. Be ready.

I agree. People can't spend if they don't have jobs, and our entire economy is based on spending money. We are in a economic death spiral.

Student loan debt, credit card debt. It's all coming back to get us.

I read in the paper earlier this week that the employment picture is not going to improve anytime soon.. and that also means the economy is also not going to see much of an uptick in the near future. It's all because of the damned speculation in the subprime market that led to this quagmire we're all trapped in -- Wall Street's fault -- and they're still at it, raping, pillaging and plundering Main Street as they see fit. It makes me madder than hell!

Everyone should be prepared for the worst. There are no jobs being created, we have to create and make our own. Everything mentioned here is happening at once, but the coming commercial and small business crisis will dwarf all else. This is goind to get ugly.

Could you elaborate on the above quote, I'm really interested in what might happen in late March?

Moe, I hear you.......I know some don't subscribe to the thought, or think that we are overtly conspiracy theorists......but people need to wake up and pay attention to "the man behind the curtain". Better to be prepared for something that doens't happen, than not to be prepared when it does.
