Living off welfare isn’t easy, but some Americans would still rather rely on their government to provide them with homes and money. RT visited a community that puts food stamps and social aid ahead of finding a job.

Seven miles from Washington DC’s busy 11th Street Bridges another world exists in an area called Woodland Terrace with a high crime rate and massive drug activity.

50% of our kids are on welfare Slim and 90% of black kids are on food stamps. This is only going to get worse and mainly because there are no jobs, not because people do not want to work. And yes, you will pay for it and the government will get bigger and more social outreach will happen whether Fox or you like it or not.

Yesterday the blacks and Hispanics had a chance to be in control and turn out for their government saviors. They didn't I refuse to believe anymore about how bad they have It. I live in the hills of TN. I know what is going on.

I have been poor many times in my life. I am a high school drop out and only self educated. I never could find work to support my kids fully in Southern California so I used to always have an illegal side job selling marijuana to friends. This helped me make the bills and pay rent.

Unfortunately it is illegal and when you do get caught, your family is left in a worse position.

My kids have been on food stamps twice Both times, my ex-wife received it while I was incarcerated. I am thankful for these programs that help those that need temporary assistance to get back on their feet. Some say my kids did not deserve to be helped because I was convicted of a crime. Others feel the kids did not ask for it, I agree with the later and eventually changed my ways.

However, people who refuse to work or change their ways should not any help or welfare. The problem is that we would literally have millions starving in the street and crime like you have never seen if the US government took that stance.

Now, millions more who want to work will not be able to. It will get much worse for families.

WE would have millions of jobs and small business like me wouldn't be out of business if the government wasn't spending us into poverty and people weren't always whining about the government to bail them out.

You have to make up your mind. Either its a government conspiracy and they are doing us in or The government is our Saviour as long as they can rape the people for money. it can't be both. If you want welfare then it should be provided by the churches and the people for those that really need it.

I just got off the phone with my boy in Hawaii. He is out there doing a job. (He runs the business and we work together when the economy is good ) When I asked him how it was he told me " Its not like it is on TV" the place is over run with deadbeats and prostitutes. Nobody wants to work! Thats why they paid him 6000.00 per diem just to go out and get the job done.

You need to read my post about "Now may be the time to follow your dream" Ther are no comments. Wither people don't believe in themselves and possibilities or they don't know how and are/have being taught to be good serfs for the government


Everything totally sucks right now. But it isn't the worst and it won't be the last.

We wouldn't be fighting this hard if we didn't believe in ourselves, Slim. And I agree there are deadbeats out there, the "choose to be homeless" types.

Then there are others who absolutely honestly need help and SHOULD BE helped. The government is cutting programs left and right. The world is a screwed up place right now and we just cannot cut these programs; much as we would like to see everyone be self-sufficient it just is not possible.

The government didn't spend us into this situation. There was massive fraud on Wall Street, lenders and borrowers that caused the real estate bubble to crash and that was 60% of our economy on Main Street. A lot of people's livelihoods are tied to the buying and selling of homes in one way, shape or form.

I feel that is why banks and our government want to purge the market as quickly as possible to revive the mortgage and real estate market. It is essential to the recovery on Main Street and producing jobs.

I agree the fact that there are new opportunities out there today and everything is not doom and gloom for everyone. You can make it if you find an opportunity to figure out ways to make money in a down economy. Unfortunately, when one is losing their home and job, depression sets in and all rational, creative thought is drowned out by the fight or flight syndrome.

Look at me. I created a website in 2007 and made virtually no money for a year. During that time I worked at a law firm and eventually opened a company that I have since shut down because of regulatory issues and lack of loans available. Fortunately now, the Google Adsense ads you see on this website now pay the bills for my family and I.

A lot of hard work, out of the box thinking, a lot of luck and a whole lot of hope will help you make it through these rough times that I am calling the Great Depression II.

I was raised in Michigan, you know the "welfare state of America". I saw it daily, women having more and more kids to make more money on welfare. The lady next door to me had 6 kids from 4 guys. No guys living with her and I used to ask her, "does the welfare really pay for all these kids", she would say, "well at least I don't have to go to work like you do everyday"...

The 113 trillion dollar debt we have is a figment of my imagination. And when the Chin family comes to collect the debt they will take over the banks and not my house and property.

you take all the money put in those government programs and divide it up among those that really need help and see which comes out best.

As for depression and all that. I am/have gone through the same thing. But my faith in myself plus having learned how to be self sufficient allow me to work over those things. At 62 bad knees and all i went out and split a cord of wood by hand to heat my home this month. I didn't drive to town and look for welfare. Hell I spent weeks and months to find this site to find out how to help myself.

Slim - how much are the wars costing?????????????????????????? I heard $185 billion a day. Seems to me this is a big chunk of the debt. So you think cutting welfare programs and putting more people on the streets is a better way to go than taking a look at that war spending?

No we don't need to fight any wars. Just depends on what form of jihadist you want you grandkids to be. I truly suppose you would rather see the desolation happen here instead of over there.

Ever notice the number of obese welfare recipients.

Help those truly in need and do it locally. I give food away all through the growing season and after. And its my labor that produces it. There are canned food drives here. All you have to do is hang it on your mail box

Every cent on welfare is better spent than any cent in Iraq because that's money to improve the quality of life of our citizens.

Why should they pick food from your garden? Before this economy collapsed, they paid their taxes. The bad, bad government took a part of their money - now, they want something in return. And boy, do they deserve it!

Please tell me why we are spending so much on a war that shouldn't exist in the first place? That's tax-money as well. I want tax-money to be spent wisely - not wasted somewhere in the desert, chasing ghosts!

You don't understand that these people initially didn't care about us. Why should they? Did they show up in Washington D.C. in the 70s and wanted to tell us how to run our country? Did they go to Texas to get OUR oil? No?

Problems in that area began when WE got involved in things that were non of our business - yes, even a Democratic President named Carter screwed up big time. He brought the regime into power that is no working on the bomb.

Iraq was non of our business as well. Not involved in 9/11. Bush lied - thousands died.

And I went to a German school, allowing me to see the "entire picture". Did you know that the news in Germany cover everything what happened around the globe rather than the latest football-results as they do over here? That's why I don't blame many people in this country for their views. It's unfair to judge them on things they can't see.

Lets stop being angry at one another for our differences or opinions.

When it comes down to being hungry and homeless, it don't matter if you are Republican, Democrat, on welfare, eating out of trash cans, anti war or pro war doesn't really matter. It all goes out the window when one is suffering and it is all about survival.

The basics.

Many in America are at this point or reaching it. If people want to game the system and be lazy, they will not get help from me. If they are just in need of a helping hand, I will give it regardless of if they are black, white or brown, Democrat or Republican.

The problem is that we are so far up $hit creek, there may be no turning back and welfare is going to either explode or mass genocide. One of the two.

I am watching the world right now. What I see is mass suffering for years to come for many of us. Not all, but many here will suffer like they would have never imagined and may soon too be on food stamps and or homeless.
