A Royal Mess? - Loan Modification Forum

My brother and his wife purchased a home and are now divorced. The home was awarded solely to my brother in the divorce decree. My brother passed away suddenly

last month. As we started going through his affairs, we found that neither he, nor his ex-wife made any changes to the mortgage; it remains in both their names. Will a mortgage company work with us? My parents were told they need to get a mortgage against their home (which is PAID FOR), pay off my brother's mortgage to get the ex-wife out of the picture, and then try to sell the house. Are there any other options?

Emmie,
First off, I am sorry for your loss.

This is a situation where, a lawyer will definately need to be retained to sort out the estate. Noone here is an attorney on the forum that could give you the direction you need, according to your states laws concerning estates, etc...
