Just wanted to pass this along. I spoke with a counselor at 995-hope who gave me a telephone number to a local office of Neighborhood Works here in Massachusetts. These folks have grants which, if you are eligible for them, can be used to help pay fees and get your mortgages out of foreclosure. In Massachusetts, we also have the Housing Assistance Corp., who will also assist homeowners, sometimes monetarily.
I know people on this board are from many different states and Mass is but one example. The reason that I bring this up is this: do your homework early and aggressively. Even if you don't have the money, explore every conceivable option available. You may find that there are organizations out there that can help you out.
I know this much. I've run into some really good people during this ordeal. I'm fortunate in that I actually have the funds and only need guidence in working with my lender. It could be worse for me and for many it is. When I dig myself out of this hole finally, I'm definitely going to explore some way to help people in forclosure here locally, even if it's just donating my time.
