I am not sure if any of you have noticed that food prices just suddenly spiked this week.

I wrote an article a couple days ago about this very same thing and have also warned the community for well over 2 years.

The crisis is now here in the U.S. and I have seen 25-100% plus increases on some food items.

What have you all seen in your towns?

the long term trend is for significantly higher prices as populations in the third world explode. plus there is the impact on types of food as third world populations move from the countryside where they grew there ownfood to urban centers where diets shift to proteins and processed food.

    You are awake DELL. good!

Well, humanity is so hell bent on consume, consume, consume and so self absorbed with their "own" problems that they won't even notice until it is too late.

There is a reason for everything, even high food and starving people. It is not right and not what I want, but I assume this is the way it must be for humanity to survive.

In any event, I just don't think many Americans get that not only their homes and jobs are issues, soon food to will be an issue. The only solution for many of you is focus on income and staying relevant in this new world economy.

actually, in another life i was on the board of directors of the purchasing co-op of a huge multinational food conglomerate. i was on the subcomittee in charge of overseeing commodity futures contracts for grains primarily. this issue came on our radar screen back in 02-03...the same thing has happened with industrial metals and build materials as well...we recieved monthly updates and often needed to make very large, on the spot purchase commitments.

aint it great, inflation X FOOD AND ENERGY is so low? what a farking joke.

but to your other point, my business in that line hit the skids in 07-08 and eventually had to sell to pay off creditors, off load a large commercial lease commitment, and salvage sandwich money. and have had to reinvent myself. ive gotten some lucky breaks but thru hard work have earned a lot of them too. you've spoken on this topic before and agree with you 100%

This is a great time to wean ourselves off of sugar and white flour... anything with added corn syrup is skyrocketing now too.

Any real food is going up and the fake food will be all many will be able to afford in the coming years. And this food is very unhealthy and kills people.

I'm starting to notice that while the price of organics is staying the same, the other "non" organic foods are slowly creeping up to organic prices. I the trip to the farmers markets cause of the organic and sometimes cheaper foods but i will also browse the food section Walmart, yes i said it, grocery shopping at Walmart, when you just don't have time for anything, it's a one stop shop. But food is getting expensive!

Moe, you are so right. We are trading cheap food for our future health. I woke up this last year after getting some bad news from my doc. I now read all the labels and ingredients and find that it’s nearly impossible to eat something that is not going to kill me. I also watched “food inc.”, which shows that greed can go beyond the banks. We kill ourselves for more money…crazy. Our family buys only organic labeled food now and I am hopeful that I will get to play with my grandson or granddaughter in the future.

I have been buying for months from local farmers, and get all my milk, eggs, beef and now produce there. I am waiting for my back yard vegetables to get big. It is more expensive buying from the small farmers with happy animals, but consider the alternative. Heart disease and cancer are very expensive.
