if i am having problems with my primary home (e.g. Loan Modification, Short Sale, etc...)

can there be any impact on my other assets?
--- rental property in another state with another mortgage company?
--- mutual funds?
--- retirement funds?
--- college funds?
--- etc.

Thoughts?
