Rent a house or an apartment for those that are walking?

I have heard horror stories about people renting a house and find out that its foreclosing. However, I am still in love with the idea of renting a beautiful home once I walk away from my 11 yr old need fixing up home.

So for those of you that are walking are you renting apartments or houses?

Hello there,
Well after so many long 10 months my lender finally approved Short Sale and escrow closed on July 9.

We are currently renting an apartment, nice, secured, gated community with washer and dryer inside the apartment, jacussi, pools, barbecue picnic place, gymn and fitness center. It is a walking distance to Ralphs, CVC pharmacy, gas station, AAA and many more and have our own covered parking which we pay for $25 per month. And I don't have to mow and water the lawn. I don't worry about repairs.

I found renting an apartment peace of mind, I don't have to worry about the homeowners association dues, property tax, fire insurance and neighbors who were very inconsiderate. My neighborhood in Riverside,CA where I bought my house and sold for a loss is a big community and each homes has 3-6 children playing on the streets, biking, skateboarding and many more. The children drew graffiti on the street, and undisciplined and their parents were just laughing and not doing anything. They even vandalized all vacant homes that are bank owned and for sale. And this is one of the reason why prices of homes went down so fast.

But not when you are renting an apartment because there are rules and regulations that the landlord strickly enforced. I thought of renting a house but few of the homes I've called and emailed did not respond and news here in San Diego says that some crooks put a vacant home, foreclosed,bank owned, in the Craiglist for rent and put a low monthly rent and deposit. But Police caught the crook because when the potential renters actually came to the house to move they could not get in and lost a lof of money.

Some homes that are for rent the owners are facing foreclosure like the landlord of my daughter and her two friends, they were paying on time and all of a sudden a Sheriff came to foreclose the house and they were only given 1 day to move.

So I rather rent an apartment because there's no hassle. Just make sure you google the apartment and look for reviews. That's how I found mine.

a problem with that is for those of us who have pets

Well we have two bunnies and we are walking from our home this week. It took me about a month to find a townhouse for rent that would allow pets, but I finally found one. I never told the landlord what we were going through, I figured they would pull my credit and see what was going on, but they never pulled my credit!! And I rented from a property management group!! As soon as we were able I put the deposit down and signed a lease. That was in June and we are just now moving out. I looked int he local papers and online to find the rental.

Some people may say "no pets" but if they are having a hard time finding a renter they may allow "three little dogs" My landlord only allowed one pet, but I told him I have two and he said well ok as long as they are kept clean. They do not live in a cage they roam free in the house and use the litter box. Keep looking I am sure you will find someplace to live. We are in MD what about you?
