Does Chase still hold my cc debt?

I stopped paying on my two Chase credit card accounts on Jan 21 (now approaching 90 days late). During this time, I have not answered phones calls. In an effort to possibly settle the debt (approx $13,000) before it gets charged off and sold to a collection agency, I called the number that I have been ignoring. The woman said she was with ALLIED INTERSTATE, and that she was working "on behalf of Chase." I am confused. Is this company the in-house collection dept for Chase? Is the debt still with Chase? Or has it already been sold to a separate collection agency. I have read everything I can find regarding settling debt with Chase, but had not come acrfoss this Allied Interstate. HELP!

    Hello MiloFu,

Yes they are a collection agency and Chase must have transferred the debt over to them to collect. But even so I would contact Chase just to verify this is true because there are so many collection agency scams out there right now.. Even if your loan was transferred to the CA this does not mean you can't still work out a settlement with them. If you read around you will find quite a few members who have successfully settled their cc debt, and below are a couple threads with members who have dealt with Allied Interstate..

Never thought I'd be happy with 50 percent, but its Capital One

I am kind of shocked that Chase would turn the debt over to a CA so soon (83 days late). I think the phone number has been the one calling me for a while now. I was hoping to settle with Chase prior to charge off. I will take your advice and call Chase tomorrow. If a CA has the debt, is that the same as the debt being charged off? I wonder if it was a mistake to ignore the calls from Chase. Is Allied Interstate more likely to sue? I assured them today that a lawsuit would be a waste of time (income totally exempt from garnishment, no free and clear assets, no money). Shouldn't I be able to get a better settlement percentage-wise from CA than Chase? She offered 50% today. I am not able to manage any more than 20%

Have you verified with Chase they are truly the ones who now are collecting on the debt? If yes this is where the negotiations begin and you may be able to negotiate a lower payoff amount. I would respond stating that you can only manage to settle the debt for 20% and go from there..

Thanks for response. I haven't called Chase yet. I received a letter from Allied Interstate stating they have been assigned the debt, but it sounds like they are working to collect debt for Chase. I will call Chase in next couple days to find out. My dog and I travel full-time in a 23' travel trailer. Currently in an area with poor cell signal. Thanks again.

    Hi MiloFu,

The number to work something out with Chase is 1-800-323-4731, at least they actually send letter to work something out rather than the WF nasty grams, lol.
