Only my husband's name is on the deed (we are recently married) 2. Mortgage with Countrywide is in his father's name - husband is not on the mortgage 3. Father passed away 4 months ago - Countrywide was not advised of father's passing 4. Mortgage is in default Before we open a larger can of worms - what will happen when we notify Countrywide of the mortgage holders death? Husband was recently laid off from his job - I just recently started a new job and already have an exisiting mortgage on my own home. I am doubtful we would qualify for another mortgage and would hate to lose the house - it is a legal 2 family in a good neighborhood - home value is approximately $600,000 with an outstanding loan of approximately $200,000. Trying to figure out how to proceed and any input prior to me contacting Countrywide would be greatly appreciated. |

In a case like this, it would be best to first contact the attorney involved with the estate of his late father. Since neither of you is on the mortgage, they will need official notification from the estate attorney first before they will talk with you.
