Countrywide is sending me in circles...

It seems to me that if I get into contact with the right person I may be able to skip a payment even before I get behind with Countrywide. I am hanging by a thread with my bills and had to take a month leave of absence from my employer because my daughter is having trouble with her pregnancy. After talking to multiple people that said it couldnt be done, just sending me to collections when Im not even outside my grace period for this month, one rep took my financial info verbally and told me to send a fax to HOPE with a hardship letter. I sent the hardship letter and she said it could be up to thirty days before my situation is handled but later admitted it would probably be taken care of in a week since I had an 'emergency". She promised I would be approved but I know not to count on what a rep tells me. What is HOPE? What is the process. What do they need my financials to be? Less than my bills or more? I faxed countrywide today; what should I do next?
