Public record request

Don't know what good this will do, but I just sent a request for public records to the Florida Atty General concerning the Countrywide settlement.

Here's what I said:

SUBJECT LINE: PUBLIC RECORD REQUEST

Pursuant to Florida Sunshine laws, I am requesting a list of people who received a settlement from Countrywide/ Bank of America regarding Pay Option Arms or other predatory loans.

I was not included in this because of the "origination" of the loan--despite the fact that Countrywide had my loan on the SAME day as closing.

Please let me know if there is a cost for this. Thank you very much and I look forward to finding out how many people received a settlement from Countrywide/Bank of America and what type of settlement was received.

Sincerely,

Re: Public record request

There's probably some kind of a form you'd need to fill out instead of simply sending a letter.

Try this website: Free Public Records Search - Black Book Online

In the empty box simply type in Florida.

It should give you a couple of pages of links to various courts and other government entities.

Re: Public record request

Of course, I will keep you posted!

Florida is pretty good in complying with public record requests and in a timely manner!!

I don't know why I didn't think to do this before!

One of the tricks when emailing is to write: Public Record Request in the subject line.
It's always amazed at me what they send or don't send!!!

Re: Public record request

UPDATE:

Most of the info is "subject to a temporary protective order".

While most of the info is on Florida-- I did notice there was info on the "national level" concerning the lawsuit against CW.

This will take some studying--- anyone up for the challenge?

Here is the email to me from the Florida Atty General.

They attached 4 different documents.

I will try to attach these docs here.
