The company refused to send a spokesman, but FNC business analyst Jonathan Hoenig defended B of A. "They're very smart to offer credit cards to immigrants. It's a major growth opportunity because immigrants need financial services. Bank of America is smart from a business perspective, and this is moral as well." The Factor accused Hoenig of encouraging law-breaking. "I noticed you used the word 'immigrant,' but you didn't say 'illegal.' That's subterfuge and it erodes your credibility. If I had any money in Bank of America, I would take it out today. Not because of what they did, but because they wouldn't explain it. Bank of America is grossly irresponsible."

Are you saying Illegals get credit cards and won't pay even if they can??? UPS! I never tought about that. Why BOFA would give money away like that??? Is this what is this post is about?

I tought only people like us, in financial hardship, who can't afford to pay for them do this. I am legal and I am not paying for my BOFA credit cards. Now I feel as bad as if I was an irresponsible illegal . (By they way, how they feel about being illegally here anyways?? I wonder but I woud never ask)

My neighboors are a family of illegal immigrants for 10 years and months ago the wife told me their house cleaning bussines is not doing well for them either(I stopped getting their services long time ago), they would not apply for the HAMP program as I suggested to them because they were afraid they could be deported. ( I guess their situation is far worse than mine).

I dont know how they are now, I won't ask, but they are still in the house and they seem to be fine. They keep a low profile and dont usually talk much. I hope they are ok, I can't stand to see more houses in foreclosure around mine anymore. I may start a conversation with that lady again one of these day to find out if they have BOFA credit cards and if they are paying for them or not .

I think this needs to stop! I am amazed how some of you are fixed on this issue, Though I am not a B of A supporter I highly doubt that B of A would allow this.

You should be sensitive to the diverse culture on this website and worry about your own problems and not speculation.

bdcv - I don't think this discussion is that bad. People are just venting. I am pretty curious about the motivation behind BofA's decision. If we have to give them every piece of information about us that exists on the planet (including social security and tax statements - you know the drill), to have them consider us for a loan modification, and then will give people - if they really are illegal - access to credit without having to splay their lives in front of them, it is quite frankly GREED that is the motivator here. In my mind it's not that they are illegal, it's just that I have tried in my work to help home less vets to be able to have banks release their benefit check money to them and the banks won't because the vet has lost their ID. We go with them sometimes and vouch for them if the banker knows us. It's just weird. weird, that BofA would do this. Actually, the more I write, the more I don't believe this. There must be some catch.

I agree that this is ridiculous and hope my clowning around did not offend you. BofA is not giving out free credit cards with no I.D. If they where, I would be the first in line.

Yep, beware!!! Bofa is almost done with the rest of us. They are reaching out for new pockets.

On the other hand. The bank is giving every product they offer to someone without SSN. BUT,they are asking for ID: passport, health care credentials, consulate id, and YES tax payer id.

and the credit cards are secured debt (clients have to leave a deposit for the credit limits of the card.) Once the client proves worthy of regular credit, the bank allows some in small increments, may take months or years (like internal credit reports)

These cards are issued ONLY if the client opens a checking, savings, CD, investment, etc with BOFA, and of course, these clients are to pay also for their horrendous fees for everything.....

..Anyways it is a web to trap new victims willing to give their money....


My daughter told me that people without bank accounts or proper ID, are charged very high fees or % for cashing their pay by local predators (western union) every time... they are everywhere!

Just to clarify: I think immigrants (legal or illegal) are people without options. I am sure they are not here because they love to be with us, just the need to make a living, thats all. I really admire and respect them for their courage to withstand humilliation, risk their lives, leave everthing they know in search for some hope...Not many of us understand what moves them.. I certainly doubt I could smuggle into a cargo airplane with only a backpack and 20 bucks in a one way trip to Japan (or some other non- english speaking country) ... and possibly leaving my kids behind.

Is something I wish nobody ever needs to do, anywhere.
