This would have a huge effect if it was done right. HUGE. But it has to be coordinated and used as leverage.

If you do close your checking or savings, MAKE SURE you do not have any auto debits going through or you will be charged $35 overdraft fees for EACH one and the longer it goes unpaid, the more fees you will accrue! Yes, learned this the hard way. And if your savings is linked to a checking account with a negative balance, THEY WILL TAKE THE MONEY OUT OF SAVINGS TO COVER THE NEGATIVE AMOUNT!
