Over the next 9 months we have experience a variety of emotions from hope at the prospect of securing a fair resolution through our lawyers, to elation when told that we would be a part of the AG settlement which could reduce our princpal, to doubt that Countrywide or our Attorneys would get this thing done to resolve that as time goes by, we'll probaly lose the only home our children have known. A couple of weeks ago we received a mod offer from Countrywide, and are seriously considering it even though it is not a part of any AG settlement, and quite frankly only buys us a little time and increases a loan that is already underwater by 45K. All this, with an attorney recommended by this site supposedly acting on our behalf. Today I find out that the attorney has never disclosed to Countrywide that I was laid off in November of 08 even though we told the firm IMMEDIATELY after it happened. Now we fear that even if we decide to accept the mod offer, the fact that we are now a one-income family will put the offer in jeopardy. The offer requires us to send in check stubs as a condition of the offer being accepted. Our total income including my unemployment benefits which can be extended six months beyond the current final payment date make the new mod payment manageable until I secure another job. Will Countrywide take that into consideration? How do we deal with this attorney situation? Do I start talking to Countrywide on my own after all of this time relying on counsel? I only have until the first week in April to accept this initial mod offer. |
