Citimortgage Nightmare

Hello,

This is my first post here. I hope someone can help me.
I have had it with Citimortgage! Iv'e been trying to get a loan modification since March 31st, 2009. It appears to me their strategy is to string me along for several months and hope I get discouraged and give up. This is the short version of my story.

First call: March 31st, 2009 and they said it would take about 3 weeks.

Second call: April 28th. They told me that I qualified for a loan modification and they were going to lower my interest rate (my current rate is 7.5%) and cut my payments to 31% of my income. They told me all that had to be done now was to get an appraisal on my house which would take a week to ten days and to call them back then.

I called back several times over the next 6 weeks and each time they told me they had not received the appraisal yet. Finally on June 11th I was told "you don't qualify for a loan modification because your loan is a FHA loan". I was told
they had another program for me called the "Hardship Assistance Program" where all I had to do was fill out an on-line form on their website and mail them my tax returns for the last 2 years.

In this program they would suspend my mortgage payments for 3 months which would give me some extra cash. I was told it would take 30 days for this to start. So I mailed in copies of my tax forms on July 12th and waited. On July 1st I talked to a woman named Sheila. Even though I had applied for the "Hardship Assistance Program" Sheila now told me they were going to try and get me a "Traditional Loan Modification".

When I told them I was previously told I didn't qualify for a loan modificaton program, she said this was a different type of loan modification and this would take about 30 days to complete and I had to be up to date on my mortgage payments and to send in my July payment. On July 20th I get another call from Citimorgtage. This time the person I talked with was named Ami and her phone number was 866 8952964, ext. 49180. Ami tells me she knows nothing about the call from Sheila on July 1st and that Citimorgtage can't do anything for me because I need to be 3 months behind on my payments.

Is Citimortgage really this incompetent? I'm ready to contact an attorney! If anybody has any suggestions for me that might help I sure would appreciate it.

Thanks for reading,

Stressed in Florida

Re: Citimortgage Nightmare

Hello flacracker and thanks for sharing your unfortunate Citi story.

This is the typical result from a system that is over burdened and employees who drop balls and make mistakes. Every single mortgage servicer is suffering from the same type of issues and homeowners continue to get discouraged and yes, some will give up.

What I have discovered is that the homeowners who stick it out and don't give up get that loan modification they need. Some get one after 2, 3 or 6 months and some take a year. Yes, I have seen people go a year of this same type of run around until they got their loan mod.

You have to realize now that this is exactly what you are up against and it is up to you to decide exactly what your pain tolerance is.

Have your tried getting help from a non-profit like www.NACA.com or local HUD counselor?

Re: Citimortgage Nightmare

Hi Moe,

Thank you for responding. Yes, I have contacted a HUD counseling service and they sent me an application form. They require me to submit my latest correspondence letter from Citimortgage but I have never received any letters from them. All correspondence has been over the phone. If I don't submit any correspondence, they cannot accept my application. What would you suggest?

Thanks,

flacracker

Re: Citimortgage Nightmare

I would suggest you try NACA. Go to NACA.com and click on the homesave menu. Complete the ten steps and fax up your documents using your personal fax page. It's not necessary to go to the workshop. Instead just set up the phone counseling, set up a couple in case they miss one. NACA is also a HUD counseling agency and their services are free.

Thank you CW. I will do as you suggested. What is a "personal fax page"?

Re: Citimortgage Nightmare

Question for Moe or anyone else who can advise; I just asked this question on a different thread but no response. Are you saying Moe, that one should also pursue NACA along with trying to get a modification from Citimortgage? I have to now try the regular hardship mod as the MHA did not qualify me. I am to send into the Loansafe Rep all the documents; he stated I need to still make 3 trial payments per Fannie Mae Guidelines and then I will be judged whether accepted or not. What if I am not? I then must repay the difference of the payment from trial to regular(forebearance?). Should I also pursue this with NACA and see if they have a different result? I'm afraid to get too many things going, but nervous if I was turned down after 3 trial months, then what?

Yes go NACA they will at least be on the same line all the time you may get different reps but what they have on file oncew you start account it will all show online so your not in the DARK, all Citi wants is your house in forclosure, must be some kinda GOV money thing all these banks are doing it, I cannot for the life of me believe that just because these banks are overwhelmed that they cannot give same answers on a call, no Company would survive being that STUPID, but yes they are that stupid and it is delibrate if you ask me, I am in an Emergency Customer Service at my Comp, and there is nobody as DUMB, as these banks seem to act. But NACA is your best bet for now

Once you join, they will email you a member #. You will log in with that number and complete the steps.

Under member services look for "fax cover page". Print that out,. It will have all your info on it and when you fax up the docs they ask for, they will go straight into your electronic account. Once NACA has the docs they can look at them when you have your telephone appointment. This is also how they transmit docs to Citi too. No paper, all electronic.

I went to Kinko's. It costs a little more but they have high speed faxes.
