Thumbs up SUCCESS With Citi Mortgage!

I contacted Citimortgage in November 2008 because of my husband income reduction at the job due to the economy effective the coming 2009 year. As of January 1st our expenses would now be more than our monthly income and I wanted to be able to head off delinquent mortagage payments. Here is my story.

November 2008 – first contacted Citimortgage because in a few months we would not be able to stay current with our mortgage. That was the first time we applied for a loan modification. I called every week for two months and got no response; all the while borrowing money to keep my mortgage on time every month.
January 2009 – Finally got a hold of someone at Citimortgage and was told my application was never reviewed and the two counselors assigned to me at different times have left. I would have to reapply. I filled out the Hardship Assistance Package for a second time. I was told that we would be put on a Forbearance plan for three months while our modification was in review. Our payments based on our income vs. expenses would be $3,618.59 a month. Payable on the 13th of February, March, and April. After the April payment was made, as long as we were able to pay the 3,618.59 on time for the three months our modification would be approved for that amount and papers would be sent to us. No reporting to credit agencies during this time or late fees would occur.
April 2009 – Found out that Citimortgage was reporting to credit agencies and our credit dropped considerably. Called Citimortgage, filled out the complaint for and faxed it to the dispute department who sent back a letter that they would correct the mistake to all reporting credit agencies. April 10th, called to make the last agreed upon payment of 3618.59 and request modification papers, since all payments were made for three months 2 days early of due date as agreed upon. I was told our application had been cancelled back in February and that no counselor ever looked at our account and that the modification plan was not going to happen. I was beside myself crying and even angry. I had been in constant touch with Citimortgage, paid every payment on time (even early), and even over looked the tanking of our credit. An to top it off Citimortgage is now telling me I owe a balloon payment of 7,600 on May 13, the difference in the mortgage for the past three months. We cannot pay this. Any Advice????
Please help

Hi gizmofab,

Welcome to the forum and thank you for joining..........

Try contacting the executive team number for LoanSafe members and see if they can take another look at your file for any of their modification programs that are currently out.

re: SUCCESS With Citi Mortgage!

actually that is one member.................who has CitiBank...........the LoanSafe contact number isn't even for CitiBank they are a separate entity and they do not have a loss mitigation dept............that person is not even dealing with CitiMortgage which this section of the forum is for.......so they wouldn't be dealing with Sergio.

Sergio is awesome and has been with many members on this forum.

re: SUCCESS With Citi Mortgage!

ok feeling a little better. Sergio called me back late this afternoon. offered me a reduction in my rate from 6.7 to 5.5%. It would lower my payment from 4522 to 4034. My initial forbearnce trail was 3618 and I was hoping for closer to that number. Do you think that this is good? It also depends on investor approval? Can it be denied easily? Than what do I do?

re: SUCCESS With Citi Mortgage!

The Administration is working with Congress to enact legislation that will allow FHA, VA and USDA to offer modifications consistent with Making Home Affordable. Currently loans insured or guaranteed by these agencies are being modified under other programs that enable borrowers to retain homeownership.

re: SUCCESS With Citi Mortgage!

UPDATE AND ADVICE: This is what was offered to me - a reduced interest rate from 6.5 to 5.5. This lowers my payment only 400 dollars, the forbarrence was 800.00 lower. Also, they want an upfront payment of 4600.00. I was current with my mortage so why the upfront? I do not have it and it is due May 15th. Is there anything I can do? It was an FHA loan.

re: SUCCESS With Citi Mortgage!

you can try contacting FHA at the number and email I posted above........there isn't much that the servicers can do on FHA loans as the guidelines that a servicer has to follow are directly from FHA, but they may be able to help with a workout directly with the servicer.

Sillyworld,

Where did you send the dispute for your credit reporting? I am in the same boat, went from a 750 to a 592 because I am backed up 3 months, which actually was not backed up, but part of the forebarance agreement. I am so upset right now. Worse thing is, my dad is a co-signer, he had a 800+ credit score, this sucks. Any help would be appreciated.

re: SUCCESS With Citi Mortgage!

See, this is what I was afraid of...we were just offered a forebearance agreement of three months beginning in May, with no guarantee of a modification. When we received the paperwork from Citi, it showed several instances where we would be considered delinquent in our mortgage (we have not been yet - but, really need help). I was told that it would not effect our credit - once I saw their paperwork, however, I have become VERY skeptical.

A person in the Citi response unit accessed through this LoanSafe number when asked point blank told us that Obama's plan was designed to help businesses recover, not neccessarily the individual homeowner.

What is going on here...I thought this was supposed to HELP troubled homeowners who have done the RIGHT thing, but are in a serious bind.

Why are WE helping the banks if this nonsense is happening?

I called FHA and they tell me nothing they can do all FHA does is add insurance to the investor, that if we are late 3 months on payments then FHA guidelines kick in and then they must follow, as I am not late on any payments so FHA cannot help, Citi cannot help cause they are only servicers so sit and wait sit and wait for investors to make decesion, which FHA gave me an idea that they may only refinance to 1% less than paying now which would lower 100 to 250.00 a month hahahah...Bomba boom help haaa

re: SUCCESS With Citi Mortgage!

Hello, we were also offered a 3 months forbearance plan. My 3rd payment will be sent next week. Due May 1st. Went from $2777 to $2195 (impound account). We are $500 in the deficit each month. They also made no guarantee's only that they would review our case after 3rd payment was received. I asked about 31% - 38% payment according to gross income, they brushed me off and said they had many other options. I will also have $10,000 due in June. I do not have it. So I will have to wait to see what happens. Just thought I'd let you know you are not alone. It is very ugly feeling not knowing what will happen if they do not approve our loan mod's. Not just approve, but work with us on something that we can afford! I will keep you posted when I hear something.
