I decided that the refi, which would only lower my payment about $200 a month, and which included a $400 application fee and $1500 in closing cost fees, really wasn't a long term solution to our issue. My husband's income is dramatically reduced from where it was when we originally bought, and I don't see that situation changing for many years, if ever, truthfully. So, I have renewed my fight. I know that we are 'ideal' candidates for a modification, and my guess is that Chase knows that, too...hence their sudden diversion tactic (refi). Anyway, even though the rep I had been in touch with regarding the refi swears that one has nothing to do with the other, I think it is curious that a week after finally telling him no thanks, I get a letter from Chase concerning my mod request. So, since 8 months have lapsed since I originally sent in my documentation, they are requesting updated docs. They have given me 30 days to send in the new docs, or else they will cancel my application. 1 thing that they are requesting is a copy of our property tax bills and cancelled checks showing we have paid them...now, our taxes are held in escrow by Chase, so I have no copies of bills or checks to show - suggestions for how I explain this? I don't want to omit something and have them cancel out my whole application. |
