I want to know if my Dad buys a house under his name for me even thought I will pay it,can I write it off?(taxes,intrest,etc.)?

I don't think you can deduct those expenses because you are not the legal owner. The bank has your dad's ssn and Form 1098 (the annual statement from the mortgage holder... reporting the total interest paid) reflects your dad's ssn.

Thanks for the response.I am trieng to look at everything before I do a short sale and that's a big issue for us.Like everyone else,our home saves us from being taxed sooo much and without it we will be screwed.My dad is willing to buy a house in his name for us.I guess we can figure something out....
