Brett Margolin Loan Modification Offer

I was contacted by this company a few days ago. They had me send some info, and then told me that they could help me get a loan modification. I have been dealing with servicers for a year, and have gotten nowhere, despite begging to pay them when I was behind 2 months... The attorney told me at the very least they could get my arearages tacked on to the end of the loan, and probably get my interest dropped a bit. They also told me that they don't take cases that they can't win. Does anyone know anything about this firm? Of hiring attorneys to do loan mods in general?

Re: Brett Margolin Loan Modification Offer

Looks like he is an attorney is New York.

This website is as plain jane and has no info.

Contact Us

I hope he doesn't spend as much time on his website has on your loan modification because you might be in trouble if so.

Then you have this ripoff report from California and he is licensed in NY. RipOff report has a bunch of bogus reports etc. and I would take some of these reports with a grain of salt, but just be careful because they can be spot on.

Rip Off Report: The Law Office of Brett Margolin, P.C. loan modification scam. they took the money ,$2000 sent some docs to the lender then never followed up dragging out my loan modification process. Internet,

I have heasrd of them... I called and inquired to them but, then found this wonderful place. They still call and I tell them I am working with the bank they try to scare me into going with them. They say things such as you DO know that most people don't get a modification working by themselves ? or flat out a bank won't work with you until you are late. WRONG again. I just politely ask them if they are through and again ask them to stop calling. .... they won't give up I bet. But maybe that will work in your favor. I just dont like people trying to intimidate me... doesn't work.

Re: Brett Margolin Loan Modification Offer

I love New J, was just there last March when I was in Connecticut.

Well, this lawyer is licensed in New York and Not New Jersey from what I could find. So maybe not a good idea to use a lawyer who cant help you in your state.

Re: Brett Margolin Loan Modification Offer

Thank you so much for your replies.
I am in Wisconsin, we are working via email, phone, and fax
I talked to them again today with some conserns. I also saw the rip off reports, and Moe I also asked about the site. They don't maintain the site anymore. They are not a LoanMod company, they are a Law Firm. I think at this point, I'm ready to try something different. Working with my Servicers/Lenders have got me nothing except 11 months behind. Please see my thread in Tell us your story(New and Frustrated) for further explaination.

Re: Brett Margolin Loan Modification Offer

This article just came out today from California Association of Realtors...

LOAN MODIFICATION ATTORNEYS UNDER INVESTIGATION
The State Bar of California has recently launched numerous investigations against attorneys for misconduct related to loan modifications. In a rare move, the State Bar has released the names of 16 attorneys under investigation, by opting to waive investigation confidentiality in favor of public protection. These attorneys have allegedly taken fees for promised services, but failed to perform those services or even communicate with their clients who face the possible loss of their homes. Their non-attorney staff may also be under investigation for unlawfully practicing law.
Not all attorneys engaged in loan modifications are unscrupulous. However, this announcement from the State Bar serves as a good reminder for REALTORS® and their clients to be careful when dealing with attorneys and others for loan modifications. Scam artists may intentionally associate or affiliate themselves with attorneys in an attempt to lend credence to their fraudulent schemes. The list of attorneys currently under investigation is available at http://calbar.ca.gov/state/calbar/calbar_generic.jsp?cid=10144&n=96395.
