After reading many of the posts here, I guess I need to start with this question for an attorney regarding possible violations having to do with predatory lending. : 1. Without excluding other possibillities of violations with regard to APR, disclosures, etc. (as I have not gotten that far into the huge task of going over all loan docs with a fine-tooth comb and aquainting myself with the legal aspects of those numbers), one thing did stand out right away and I need to know if this was legal? *When we refinaced our interest-only loan that was with Countrywide, we first asked Countrywide to refinance the loan into a fixed-rate loan and they refused. So we refinanced with a different company (USB I think) and had to pay a HUGE pre-payment penalty to Countrywide, which was included in our new loan making our new loan amount much higher than we had hoped. Then, in less than a month, we got paperwork in the mail saying our loan had been sold to Countrywide! Now I see in bold writing on our docs it says"SELL ONLY TO COUNTRYWIDE" Was this legal????? |
