Thanks, everyone, for your advice and comments. It does sounds like GMAC is telling everyone the same thing -- can't help you unless you stop paying. Well we've got 3 weeks to make that decision, and I believe we will do what you're doing, Dennis -- put some money aside, make the call on the first day we're late, and see who our investor is and what they can do.

We don't have many other options --- it is a very scary prospect to stop paying our mortgage, and I never thought we would be at this point in our lives -- but I'm hoping our investor is Fannie, because that new plan they just released the details on sounds like it could potentially help us. (38% ratio would help significantly -- we are at 50% or more of our income with my husband's new job.)
