The only time they will report you to the credit bureaus is when you are late.........the modification process, if you stay current, will not be reported negatively to your credit.
It is the collection dept. that has been telling customers not to make payments, which they should not be doing.
You should keep your payments current if you can so that you don't mess up your good credit.........and as you see from Andrew's post, you can do it through CheckFree while going through the modification process.
