Broward County Bargains Lure Potential Homebuyers

(Source: By Paul Owers, Sun Sentinel, Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) - Big price declines over the past several years have homebuyers trolling for bargains in Broward County.

Among the top 10 metro areas nationwide where demand among online house hunters is strongest, seven are in Florida, according to a quarterly report issued Thursday by real estate website Trulia.com.

Broward is seventh on the list. More than twice as many people want to move here as want to leave, Trulia says.

Palm Bay-Melbourne along Florida’s Space Coast topped the list.

“Although locals in Florida, inland California and the Southwest are suffering from high foreclosure rates and lost equity, huge prices declines since the height of the housing bubble have drawn house hunters from across the country,” said Jed Kolko, Trulia’s chief economist.

Big price declines over the past several years have homebuyers trolling for bargains in the Sunshine State.

Among the top 10 metro areas nationwide where demand among online house hunters is strongest, seven are in Florida, according to a report issued Thursday by real estate website Trulia.com.

Broward County is seventh on the list. More than twice as many people want to move there as want to leave, Trulia says.

The Palm Bay-Melbourne metro area along Florida’s Space Coast topped the list. Nearly nine times as many people are looking to move there than to leave.

The quarterly rankings are simliar to those issued in November.

“Although locals in Florida, inland California and the Southwest are suffering from high foreclosure rates and lost equity, huge prices declines since the height of the housing bubble have drawn house hunters from across the country,” Jed Kolko, Trulia’s chief economist, said in a statement.
