Advice on finding a good real estate agent
Many buyers have a very difficult time trying to find a knowledgeable real estate agent (or realtor) with experience in their field. Online or in your local newspaper you can find thousands of realtors claiming they are the best around, making the decision that much harder. It is very hard going through all these people and deciding who is the best one to choose for my particular situation. So before you start looking, I suggest you read the four easy steps below that will help tremendously in your search.
1. Prove the agents reputation. It is crucial that you first verify the agents reputation before you hire them. No matter what type of property you are trying to purchase, you should first verify with the National Association of Realtors (NAR) of their experience. You want to also make sure that this agent does not have any negative marks against them to prove that they are legitimate. Make this a requirement before you start looking for the home you wish to buy. Also ask the agent for references, if they are who they say, they will have no problem letting you speak to some of their past clients.
2. Make sure they are familiar with the area in which you wish to buy. Many times you will come to find that some agents who will know nothing about the area they are trying to sell. A realtor should be able to tell you about the pros and cons of the neighborhood and local territory in which you are trying to move. Therefore, it is wise to locate a real estate agent that either grew up in the area or lives in the same city. This will help significantly because they can show you around town, tell you if the area is suitable for children, and just give an overall insight on the surrounding region.
3. It is crucial to make sure that the real estate agent you hire is a MLS user. Multiple Listing Service (MLS) is a tool that is used to help locate commercial and residential ares for their clients. This tool can help the agent find an area for their client just by cities, zip codes, streets, or even the school district in which the buyer wants to reside. You can make your search as detailed or as generic as you wish, and this will help you find a communtiy that best fits your needs.
4. The last thing you should do is to choose an agent who will be accessible to your calls and questions even when there is no appointment scheduled. In today’s economy it is a very tough market for real estate agents, and therefore for an agent to be successful they must be available via email or cell phone most of the day and some hours at night. If they know what they are doing, they will know the extreme importance of being accessible to calls after five pm. Therefore, locate one who can work around your hours and willbe available when needed be.
